The Alliance of the Two Hearts

The Alliance Of the Two Hearts is a First Friday and First Saturday devotion in honour of the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary which takes place on the first Friday of every month in        St. Nessan’s Church, Raheen, Limerick.

The day begins with Mass at 10.15pm to the Sacred Heart and, after Mass, there is Confession and, while the Priest  is hearing Confession, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed.  During this time, there is rosary and other prayers recited.

A second Mass to the Immaculate Heart of Mary takes place at 12.15am. (Just after midnight).

The Alliance of the Two Hearts takes place at around the same time in every County in Ireland and in many countries all over the world.

The Alliance of the Two Hearts is a covenant of love between God and Mary, between God and Man, whom Mary represents.  Mary’s perfect response to the incarnation of the second person of the Trinity pre-empts what mankind’s response ought to be to God’s invitation of love  “fiat”, Her “fiat” which began at the Annunciation was lived through and completed at Calvary, in total union with Jesus suffering on the Cross.  It is the ultimate manifestation and test of love.

This covenant of love becomes a continuous response when it becomes a way of life.  The “Alliance of the Two Hearts” is therefore more than a  devotion, it is a way of life.  Through its Eucharist centred lifestyle, the Alliance of the Two Hearts is concretely lived in the practice of the Communion of Reparation with its four basic elements – Rosary, Reconciliation, Eucharist and holy hours of Adoration.  It is a “communion” because peoples are brought together to pray and make reparation together “as one family united in spirit and intention”. “Reparation”, because this is what is needed to pay for mankind’s  rejection of God’s invitation of love.
